Owen Agho and Nic Josey of the R.E.A.L. Party have won the 2008 Student Government Council elections, according to an unofficial count. Agho and Josey, the assumed president and vice president-elect, respectively, defeated Greg Schulkey and Ian Mays of the NEW Dynamic Party by a vote total of 425-230, taking 64.9% of the vote.

Robert Routhier won the SGC treasurer position by a write-in candidacy, getting 49 votes. The next closest candidate, Christopher Agazino, received 10.

Current Public Relations Chair Krystal Long was elected secretary with 474 votes. She ran uncontested, but 29 other write-in candidates received one vote each.

All six representative candidates, Martin Portillo, Marcus Batson, Matt Washington, Saad Qureshi, Shawntae Harris and Tamara Dandachi, all from the R.E.A.L. Party, were elected.

In mascot voting, "Victors" won with 297 votes. "Stones" was the second-most popular choice, earning 238 votes. "Flash" received just 154 votes. "Victors" becomes UM-Flint's unofficial mascot. In order to become official, the name will have to be approved by university administration.

Voting results will be made official tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. if no formal complaints are filed.

Agho issued a short statement through his Facebook.com page thanking his supporters and declaring victory.
