The Student Government Council will be holding a “Choose or Lose” Voter Registration Drive next week, Sept. 23-26.  The drive will be held on the third floor of the UCEN from noon-4 p.m. in order to get students registered before the Nov. 4 elections.  The deadline for voter registration is Monday, Oct. 6.  Food will be provided, along with a free t-shirt designed by Jessie Hurse for everyone who registers or can prove that they are registered.

Members from a group called ACORN, or Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, have been seen on campus recently, asking students to register to vote.

The SGC voter drive couldn’t have come at a better time, considering this group is under investigation for voter fraud. The Detroit Free Press reported the issue, and quoted a spokeswoman for the Michigan Secretary of State's Office, Kelly Chesney, who said “some of the applications are duplicates and some appear to be names that have been made up.”  The complete article can be found here.

Anyone unsure of whether they are registered can visit the Michigan Voter Information Center to check their voter status.
