It’s finally happened.

The number of student organizations on campus has grown so large that it has collapsed in on itself like neutron star. It just goes to show, if you get enough people involved and wait a proportionate amount of time, dreams really can come true.

As a result of the growth, the Ontario Room is being converted into a student organization center, and is scheduled to open Sept. 17.

The Ontario Room is located on the first floor of the UCEN near the print shop. Free food and soda will be served at its re-grand opening.

The new Student Organization Center will have supplies for clubs to use and work-study student will be hired to work in the organization center. Because the organization center is located near the print shop, student groups will have easy access to those services.

"It was allocated to the clubs based on the high demand of clubs for space," said Jessie Hurse, director of student life. "[Before] students had the backs of their cars, their houses, and their lives filled with club information."

By streamlining all that is necessary to run a club, it should make the administrative positions for clubs more appealing, making it easier to stimulate community growth on a commuter campus, which is always difficult.

It came to the point where those in charge decided that "clubs just needed a place to call their own," Hurse said.

Owen Agho, president of Student Government Council and SMUF activist, called it "the center formerly known as the Ontario Room."

Agho described it as a place where students can learn more about the organizations that are active on their campus.

"We strongly encourage students to use that space, so we can continue to make the UCEN more of a student union," Agho said.
