Star Trek

Rated PG-13, 127 minutes

Verdict: A

Since rumors of a new “Star Trek” movie were first heard on the airwaves, people have been talking about the film. For almost a year, it was kept a secret and no one even knew the release date. Finally
the release date was set for Christmas 2008, but for some reason, release of one of the year's most anticipated films was delayed.

On May 8, “Star Trek” hit the movie theaters. I had the privilege to view it as a special screening at the NCG Trillium Cinemas on the IMAX screen.

The original story of “Star Trek” begins with Captain Pike commanding the USS Enterprise, but in a turn of events he is killed and Cadet Kirk becomes captain of the Enterprise. This movie starts with the USS Kelvin being attacked by a large ship and Kirk’s father George Kirk being killed. The original history of “Star Trek” suggests that Kirk’s father lived to see him become captain of the Enterprise. Since the course of events being changed, the future is also changed. This movie combines classic “Star Trek” with humor and a new twist, which redefines “Star Trek” and opens up a whole new door to the Trekkie universe.

With the course of history changed from the beginning of the movie, who knows what possibilities lie with these new changes? This movie could redefine all of the “Star Trek” movies, but I am not going to give everything away. My recommendation is to go see it. I give it two thumbs way up. It is
action packed and has a lot of humor in it.

It was definitely worth seeing and worth waiting for.

J.J. Abrams did a wonderful job directing this movie and I recommend it for people of all ages.
