Some call it a Hallmark holiday. Others think of it as the most romantic day of the year. Most know it as Valentine’s Day.

Since V-day falls on a Sunday this year, Campus Activities Board is celebrating the holiday the week before. On Feb. 9, CAB is sponsoring Build-a-Critter which will be set up on the third floor of the UCEN at Clint’s Cafe from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., or until they run out of supplies.

Some of the critters available include koalas, giraffes, tigers, hippos and frogs. CAB is excited to offer a bigger selection of animals because last semester they only offered monkeys and bears. In order to get your very own critter all you need is your MCard and the critter is free. A T-shirt or hoodie is available to dress your critter and you are able to design the shirt or sweatshirt however you wish.

CAB member Deborah Shoulders, senior accounting major, said CAB is doing Build-A-Critter for Valentine’s Day because, “For Valentine’s Day you usually get a stuffed animal or candy or something cutesy and this is something students can do for free.”

Junior political science major Brandon Haskell is excited to participate in Build-a-Critter because, “I’m new to campus and it seems like it’s a good way to meet people.”

For the single student, CAB is also sponsoring speed dating. Speed dating will be in the Happenings Room in the UCEN on Feb. 11 at 8 p.m. Speed dating allows students to go on quick, usually five minute, dates with many people. You quickly chat about yourselves, and if interested you can exchange information to meet again.

Aaron Martin-Green, sophomore secondary education major with a concentration in math, said that the most important thing to remember for speed dating is to “have fun with it.”

After the candy hearts are eaten and with flowers displayed proudly, look for Wacky Wednesday presented by CAB. The Wednesday after Valentine’s Day, CAB will have a table set up on the third floor of the UCEN where students can come and make wacky crafts. In the past they have made crowns and bracelets from duct tape.

Allison Jendry, sophomore sociology major, said that, “A lot of the students really liked it.” CAB does Wacky Wednesday every month. This month’s Wacky Wednesday will be Valentine’s Day-themed, so look for the table.
