If you’re interested in getting into the entertainment industry, look no further than the Academy of Television Arts & Science Foundation.

The foundation is currently offering an internship for those interested in getting involved. Nancy Robinson, education programs manager of the foundation calls the summer internship program the “first step in becoming leaders in the entertainment industry.”

The internship offers a first-hand experience learning from professionals. The Academy pays a $4,000 stipend to the interns across an eight-week period based in Los Angeles.

Applying is to be done online and must be done in a professional manner. The Academy asks for cover letters, resumes and at least two letters of recommendation.

Positions available for application range from directing, writing, or casting to things like sports production or episodic series. The full list of positions as well as detailed descriptions are available on the Academy’s Web site, www.emmyfoundation. org.

Applicants can only apply to one position and must be experienced in the field they are applying for. “The goal is not to teach people how to do these jobs,” Robinson said, “but to take those with experience.”

The Academy took 41 interns for 30 available spots last year and the professionals used are new every year, but Robinson assures the caliber of the pros is always the same.

There is a new rule implemented with the internship. “If you graduate before June 30, you would not be eligible for some categories,” Robinson said. “We are trying to bring current students.” There is strong competition for many of the positions available. “Some of the more popular positions get a lot of applicants. We get applicants from all over the country,” Robinson said. “The competition varies for what position is applied for.”

Applications must be in by March 15.
